The solid jade hair straightener to heat up to 220+ degrees Celsius and higher. (430f + degrees). The stones in the Jade radiate the heat differently than a stylist is used to. The heat does not need to transfer from the plate to the hair like it does in the ceramic or metal hair straighteners. The jade plate iron straightens the hair with less damage from heat to the hair.
The jade hair straightener is hot, 430f degrees and getting
more than hot enough to straighten the hair. it is NOT transferring the
heat to the hair, it is using it and retaining it in the jade plates to
straighten the hair. The fact is the hair is straightening as it should
with one pass, so the iron is doing the job. What it is NOT doing is
damaging the hair, it keeps the heat in the stone.
Some users may need or want to turn the heat a bit higher than
they did with ceramic because the stone is thicker than metal or
ceramic thereby requiring more heat.
The reality is when used over a prolonged period of time the
Wigo solid jade hair straightener is leaving the hair softer, shinier
and in better condition than the same hair using a non-solid jade hair
straightener.
"Use the heat - don't abuse the heat"
Trouble shooting
Hair seems to be dragging or snagging thru the plate
Make sure the protective coating is removed from the jade plates prior to heat up and first use.
If
the coating has been removed?- turn the heat up? - think of ironing a
blouse?- the fabric drags if you do not have the heat set properly for
the fabric being ironed.
Different hair requires different
heat. Since the stone is acting differently than ceramic or metal it
matters what the heat setting is and may require some finesse.
I can't turn the heat higher or lower during use
If the green light is on?- you have locked
the temperature. To unlock - press the on/off button twice quickly. Use
the + / - button to increase or decrease the heat. Continue use. If you
wish to lock in the new temperature - Press the on/off button twice to
lock it. You must unlock the iron each time you wish to adjust the
temperature. You must also unlock it to turn the iron off. To turn the
iron off?- press and hold the button down. Note: You do not have to
lock the temperature to use the hair straightener.
My hair does not feel hot
Is the iron straightening your hair with
one or two passes? If not?- turn the heat up. If the hair is straight
?- it is working fine, your hair is NOT supposed to be hot?- just
straight.
How do I clean the build up of product off my iron?
The best defense is to keep the build up from
accumulating. Wipe the warm iron down with a damp cloth after each use,
alcohol will help cut any build up. If you have used lots of styling
products you may need to wipe down during use.
Hot Tools has a hair straightening iron cleaner on the market that can be used safely on the jade.
Awesome Straightener, just be careful of heat reviewed by Maggie, on Jun 9, 2009
I've had this straightener for almost 3 years. It hasn't shorted out on me and works very consistently. It's larger size is much handier than smaller straighteners because it can straighten more hair at a time, which is wonderful with my medium thick hair. However, its bulk can be annoying when packing. I wouldn't believe everything the blurb says about not damaging hair, my hair does have a little bit of heat damage (though not nearly as much as other people's who use other straighteners daily). My hair also is shiny and smoother after using this product.
The only trouble I can think of is it gets very, very hot, and if you aren't careful your hair will burn you. Ouch. But it works quickly, usually only taking one or two swipes to straighten completely. I absolutely recommend it.
I had this straightener for about 3 years. It did a great job straightening my hair, but it did leave my ends dry and fragile. My biggest problems with the straightener was that the thing fell apart, and I had to keep the two arms of the straightener that held the plates together with bobby pins so I could use it. Eventually, the lights that signified which heat setting was being used burned out, and the straightener shorted out and turned itself off. But other than that, it made my hair really straight...

I bought one of these because the green was pretty and it looked cool.
When I turned it on, if I tried to slide up the heat to more than halfway up it turned itself off.
SO I kept the heat below half and after about 40 minutes, my hair was still not straight.
I was not happy and neither was my hair.
I love it I have relly thick hair and was able to straighten more hair at one time then with my old flat iron it gets really hot and quick so if you have really thin fine hair you probably start off at the first setting so you don't burn your hair I'm very happy with it

I bought this straightener about a year ago, I had gotten a couple of cheap conair ceramic straigheners that didn't work badly, they just were too drying on my hair. I color and blow dry my hair often and although I have straight hair, it is naturally wavy in spots and difficult to straighten in those spots. The Wigo Jade has been the best money that I have ever spent on a hair care product. Heats quickly, plates line up evenly, straightens very fast if you have the heat set to your hair type, and will not pull out your hair or break it. The straightening lasts for a long time without humidity even affecting your hair... Love it, would replace if broken or lost....!
