Hi i was wanting to now what th best straightener for me was - i have never owned one before. I have fine straight hair but have recently moved to Texas and it can have very humid hot conditions - my hair is just going fly away!! i was also wanting to curl my hair from time to time but my hair has never held a curl ... I was looking at the Sedu or the Solia, the Chi sounds good, but is GHD still rated? See? im completely stumped. Please help!!
Jess's Reply:
I have the same exact problem!! Even with my hair holding a curl! When other people curl my hair it works, but if I use curlers it doesn't! I know the Chi ceramic plate flat iron works well and all day and when a friend used it to curl my hair it stayed in! I don't like down in heat like that though... but when it hits 70 and sometimes lower if I'm exerting too much energy, other straighteners don't work (Remington for example) where Chi does. I don't know about Sedu... it might be good, has great reviews. About curling your hair, maybe try a curling iron if you can't figure out how to curl your hair with a flat iron or if it isnt working

I had a chi. after all the time to straighten if it was humid at all or I sweat at all my hair went frizzy anyway. Is there a straightener that will hold in even in humidity

I had a chi straightener. After all of the work if there was humidity my hair went frizzy anyway. Anyone has suggestion for a straightener. I saw commercial for kstyler but after reading reviews it doesn't sound good.

i need to buy a straightener for an 12 year old girl. i have let her use mine and she always complains about burning her hands. what would be a good first straightener for her.
kyra's Reply:
Ugh, some people dont read... LOL. HANDS, not HAIR are getting burned. Megan, I started straightening my hair when I was 12. I have very coarse very curly hair. Even so, I started with one purchased at walmart. You can get one geared towards young girls there for a lot less than the ones you get at a salon and they dont get quite as hot. Her hair is young and wont need as much heat. Plus, too much heat will damage it and then it will have to be cut... big mess. Just get her a cheapy one for now... then she can upgrade when she gets to high school ;)

megan..itz too young for her to burn her hair and make it look preety, i understand how you feel. all straightners burn your hair, you can use a soothing cream which can help prevent burns..

My hair won't chemically straighten anymore? I am a male and have curly hair and i usually chemically straighten it every now and then and it works perfectly, i do it myself and the product i use is creme of nature and it always turns out good though the last time i done it , it didnt work, my hair stayed curly, so i done it again and it still didn't work so than i went out and spent alot of money on whats ment to be a really good chemical straightener but that didn't work either. Can anyone tell me why my hair won't straighten anymore ?

pls advise which of the two is better and good for the hair- ceramic or non-ceramic straightner ? should any kind of cream to be applied before straightening done ?

Moderator 's Reply:

Ceramic heat is better: Ceramic will maintain even temperature all the times Ceramic will produce negative ions Seals the cuticle Locks in hair color and retards fading Ceramic heat will ensure the penetration of the silk molecules to the hair Apply thermal protection cream/serum is suggested before straightening, they can help protect against heat damage and smooth your hair.

Professional hair straighteners can better protect your hair, but few of them are under $50.

I am thinking of doing japanese straightening. everyone has been saying that it will really damage your hair. i have very thick frizzy curly hair. what do u guys think?
audrey's Reply:
I've done japanese straightening before, and trust me, it is amazing!! the light reflected off of my hair like crazy, and it blew naturally in the breeze, not at all dried out or artificial, like you might expect after a chemical treatment. Ironically, it actually was in the best condition ever. my hair was amazingly soft. i also have very thick curly hair, trust me, it is amazing!

I'm a guy with fairly short (really curly) hair, but with a long fringe, that I straighten every morning. Is it worth it to get it chemically straightened, or will it work?
