Hi I have medium/long curly frizzy hair which I straighten alot with my babyliss straigtener. It will last me all week. I was thinking of getting my hair permanently straightened but Im a bit worried because I have a full head of blonde foils. Will my hair fall out or is my hair too dry because of the foils. I need to get my foils done every 3 mths.
Christina's Reply:
Permanent strightening is sort of an opposite perm, and lasts about the same time. If you get your hair foiled every 3 months, you're likely to need to get your hair striaghtened every 3 months as well. On the other hand, traightening with an iron every day will cause your hair to dry out, because of the heat damage. Having it straightened permanently will mean that you don't have to use the iron as frequently, meaning less daily damage to your hair.

I can't afford most of these modern day straightening techniques. In the 80's, I had my hair straightened for 7 years by simply having my beautician put perm solution through my hair, and she simply combed it straight every minute or so for about 45 minutes, wash, neutralize, done! I had this done about every 4 to 6 months. My hair never felt or looked damaged, just perfectly straight and shiny. Now it seems no one wants to do this because of all the hype about these really expensive Japanese or Coppolla techniques. It seems now beauticians are reluctant to straighten hair this way, but I've been reading some pretty scary stuff about the Japanese method wreaking terrible damage to hair. The only difference I can see is perm solution combed through my hair will cost me about $45.00 or $60.00 bucks and the new fangled techniques cost around $400 or $800 bucks, and still need to be retouched for new growth.

The modern straightening techniques improve the hair's feel, softness and shine better, more manageable, definitely! ^^

I just rebonded my hair and it starts turn frizzy. So i used a hair straightener to straighten it but i am afraid that by doing so my hair will curl back easier. In other words, will straightening the hair after the rebond affects the rebonding effect?

Moderator 's Reply:

Absolutely! Do not straighten your hair after rebonding, your hair is already damaged by the rebonding chemicals, use straightener will aggravate it.

I am thinking of doing japanese straightening. everyone has been saying that it will really damage your hair. i have very thick frizzy curly hair. what do u guys think?
audrey's Reply:
I've done japanese straightening before, and trust me, it is amazing!! the light reflected off of my hair like crazy, and it blew naturally in the breeze, not at all dried out or artificial, like you might expect after a chemical treatment. Ironically, it actually was in the best condition ever. my hair was amazingly soft. i also have very thick curly hair, trust me, it is amazing!

hi, ive heard about permanent hair straightening and i wanted to give it a try. but i dont know what price range they run in and if it really works? please help!!! thanks
vikki's Reply:
Katie - don't let anyone permanently straighten your hair. I looked into that, too, and discovered that, due to the chemical used, the solution has to be put no closer than two inches from your scalp. I cannot even imagine what that would look like, to have curly fuzz around your face for two inches, and then stick straight hair. I've used the Maxiglide for a couple of years and really like it, but you have to learn how to use it so you don't get stick straight, boring hair. My maxiglide just broke (I don't know why, it did not get dropped, but the housing cracked apart) I just heard about a product called Mixed Chicks (be sure to google on "mixed chicks hair products" so you don't get something offensive!! Good luck..........

I recently had my hair straightenend by my hairdresser using the bio ionic hair straightening system. I am experiencing breakage. Every time I comb my hair there's hair breaking off, long and very short pieces. I went back to my hairdressser who did an intense thermal condtioning and it is still breaking off. Any answers as to why would be IMMENSLEY appreciated...thanks!
