Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening

Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening is an innovative new technique from Japan to make frizzy, curly or wavy hair completely straight while preserving the hair's health. In the past, people were concerned that if they straightened their hair, they would damage it significantly, and this was true. It is not true any more. Hair can be straightened much more effectively with the Japanese Liscio techniques with much less damage to the hair.

Japanese Hair Straightening typically will improve the hair's feel, softness and shine while making it more manageable!

What is Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening and its History?

The first question we are usually asked about Japanese Hair Straightening (also called Thermal Reconditioning) is "Why do the Japanese need to have their Hair Straightened? They already have straight hair!" Actually this is just not true. Many Japanese have wavy or kinky hair.

How is Japanese Hair Straightening Done?

Japanese Hair Straightening is a fairly involved procedure. It can take between 4 and 8 hours to complete depending on your hair length and volume. Salons in LA charge upwards of $500 USD to do this procedure. You will be happy that Aoi Beauty Studio does not charge that much!! Click Here to see how much we charge for Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening.

The Liscio Hair Straightening System & Shiseido Crystallizing is as follows:

  1. Assessing the hair type and condition.
  2. Washing the hair.
  3. Applying protein to the hair, if necessary for the particular customer and hair type. (small extra charge for this procedure, if you don't do this when necessary, you could end up with a less than satisfactory result, the stylist will tell you if this is necessary or not in your consultation)
  4. Applying Solution #1 (this cuts the hair's "Cystine Bonds" - the bonds that hold curl or wave patterns).
  5. Testing to see when the hair is ready to have Solution #1 rinsed out.
  6. Rinsing the hair.
  7. Eliminating some excess moisture in the hair (blow-drying to a certain point).
  8. Ironing the hair in extremely small sections with a special Japanese Straightening Iron that reaches temperatures of 180 degrees Celsius. Don't worry, this will not damage your hair unnecessarily.
  9. Applying Solution #2 to the hair after ironing is completed.
  10. Rinsing the hair and conditioning.
  11. Drying the hair and applying a flat iron to remove excess moisture if necessary.

Hey....about straightening in the (SF)Bay Area, in CA.....I've been doing it for 7 years. There is a place in ChinaTown that I go to. You have to watch them like a hawk, and tell them over and over again that you want then to do it about 1/2" away from your scalp, for body, but I it looks great when you're done,a and it's about $200!

Hey everyone - I was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with japanese hair straightening in the bay area California? My hair is wavy with a medium thickness, but is pretty dry (even with moisturizing shampoos and condititoners) and I am never satisfied with the way it looks. However when I blow-dry and straighten it I love its look.
I am thinking about having my hair straightened at a salon, but do not want to lose all my hair's volume, and of course have minimal damage done. Any suggestions?

I totally agree with Aliya and Bella74 about Beauty Choice Salon in Houston, TX. They fried my hair bit time. I have to buy very expensive conditioner to treat my hair. Every time when I wash my hair, I have to blow dry and flat iron it, otherwise my hair will look like lion's hair (this is after so-called Japanese Straightening was done to me by Joyce and Patrick at Beauty Choice Salon). When I comb my hair, my hair is breaking a lot too. I called them to tell them the situation a week later after the service, Patrick (the husband) gave me such an attitude!! No apology at all!! Ladies, DON'T GO THERE!!. They may charge a little cheaper but they are not professionally trained for that.

this is for victoria from huston. I have relaxed and straightened my hair for years. once you do japanese, you can not have curly hair, your hair is turned bone straight. if you want to retain some curl , you should only do relaxer. it gets read of the frizzy & volume, and you can keep some of your curl, and you have to do some blow drying to have straight hair. maybe about 20 minutes, but the nice thing, is once you blow dry your hair, and looks nice, it does not become frizzy and volume anymore.

I'ne been using Liscio hair straightening system for last 7years in my salon and I love it.
But sometime even with the same products if your hairdresser doesn't have enough exprience and knowledge they can dammage your hair.
It happened to me too when I first started doing hair straightening about 10 years ago.
I am fully certified bu Liscio and for more info please visit my website. Annabanghairdesign dot com.
Thanks.

I have had Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening for over 2 years in the Charlotte, NC area. The price is high and my hair was damaged in March. Where are the salons that do the Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening in NC. Also, can Chi straightening be used when touch-up is needed on Liscio straightened hair?

by Lora from Philadelphia on Sep 11, 2009

Japanese hair straightening is best in Philadelphia, I live in New Jersey but go there every 7 month - they specialize in thermal hair straightening - you can find this salon here (no spaces) alex baraz . com

by ann louise from north florida on Aug 29, 2009

Does this system work on african american natural hair type? I have not had any chemicals in my hair for over 3 years, but living in Florida that has been crazy!!!! any recommendations?

by Bella74 from Italy on Aug 27, 2009

I totally agree with Manju Shyam. I also had a Japanese straightening done at the Beauty Choice Salon at the beginning of the year. My hair is completely burnt from the roots to the ends. I also noticed they were "following" at least 5 other customers at the same time and they also charged me more then I expected from the consultation. It is a cheap price, but believe
your hair will be damaged, dry and burnt for a very long time. DO NOT GO THERE!

by Frankie from Houston on Aug 26, 2009

I noticed Aliya's response. I live in Houston as well and had a very similar experience. I went to Cosmo salon (www.cosmosalon.biz) on Bellaire and the woman fried my hair. I had to cut it all off and even now, a year later, it hasn't grown back entirely.

I didn't know the damage she had done until I washed my hair 4-5 days later, so I tipped her $50. I was a real idiot.

by Jenna from Los Angeles on Aug 22, 2009

I've been getting the Liscio hair treatment done for about 5 years now and I will never turn back. It has done WONDERS for my hair, which used to be totally unruly and awful. It was like the gitl from Princess Diaries x1000. Trust me, if you go to the right person, you will get GREAT results. In fact, if you live in LA, I recommend going to Pia Hair Salon in Torrance. It costs $230 if you have short hair, and $250 if you have long hair, and your hair stays stick straight and perfect for about 6 months. Then you go back to have it done again. Even by the 6th month, it's still pretty manageable, just kind of annoying, but that comes with the territory. Plus, you get a free haircut included and they're SO nice. I could never go back to my natural hair ever again. I totally recommend this.

Hi There!
How are you doing? Could you please tell me where can I buy the LISCIO JAPANESE HAIR STRAITENING CHEMICAL or YUKO JAPANSESE HAIR STRAITENING CHEMICAL. for my sister in law salon? Thank you very much & have a good day.

by Charlie from NJ on Aug 13, 2009

Hi i went to hudson hairs. they charge way too much . Owner is very rude . first time when the did my hairs it did not turn out good . so when i went next day again saying my hairs are not done ok. he comes out saying me that i need to use iron to staright. i said why i should be using iron when i am paying for hair straightenning. he was kind of fooling around. with in three months they become curly again and i went again today. and he keeps saying now i need to pay $400 again to get it staright. keep away from Hudson Hairs. Owner is rude and service are very low.
