Chemical Hair Straightening

Chemical hair straightening makes fuzzy, curly, unmanageable hair soft and silky. It is originally developed in Japan for clients who wanted to smooth out their wavy, unruly hair.

hi guys, my hair is naturally really curly, i would straighten it for about an hour every time i washed it, it was really dry !! but then about a year ago i started to get it chemically straightened & when i washed it i would hardly straighten it, i must tell you my hair was in so much of a better condition after chemically straightenning it rather than intensely straightening it with straightners every day !! hope this helps :* x

I have thick, curly, frizzy, red hair. It STINKS to straighten it- it takes like, half an hour!! I'm 14 and simply dont have the time. When I do straighten it, if it gets A TEENY bit wet, it curls. BLACH. Does it work? Truly? Please help! I'm not vain, but I do care!

I just go my hair chemically relaxed with Chi chemical relaxer & i really like it about 2years ago I tried a chemical straighting process called the japanease straighting perm i actully did it twice the first time it was really straight & after i washed it, it slowly got curly so i tried it again & it did the same thing so i would not reccomend that one. I really do reccomend any one who does not like straighting there hair for 3-4hrs to get it chemically relaxed using the chi relaxer is truely a miracle worker i have read a few bad reviews but it worked for my hair and didnt damage it at all.

A while back, I did a brazilian perm called keritan. I stopped using the perm and switched to texturizing. After stopping that, I started using a relaxer. The last time I did the relaxer was Christmas break. It's July now. My hair is naturally very very curly and my roots are growing back. I'm really sick of having to straighten my hair all the time and want a cure to this root madness! The rest of my hair has stayed wavy after all these treatments, it's just the roots, which is all the hair growing back. I really don't wanna have to shave my head... HELP?! =[

I am in the same position as Erica. I am 12 and have REALLY thick hair. I straighten it once a week b/c my hairdresser said NOT to wash it every day. My mom won't let me get it relaxed but I want to. I hate having to deal with my hair all the time and it looks awful! Please help! Should I or should I not get it relaxed?

okay so i wash my hair every 3 days and straighten it with a flat iron.people say that damages your hair and i want to chemichally straighten it but some say that damages it even worse. is that true or false? does chemically straightening your hair damage it more than a flat iron?

People, the question you've been asking is reeeeeeeeeeally easy to answer: if you wanna get it done but you don't want your hair to lose its health; get it done to a professional!!! It's hair we're talking about here, you can't mess with that. If you wanna succeed, you must cough up the money. You'll only be sad by being cheap.

Hi I used the straightened chemical with my Cline step by step but it not work. Who know how to do the best way pleas let me know.

by Sandy from usa on Jun 18, 2009

Tina from Canada. How sad it is that you have never had to deal with curly hair. And how sad that you have no compassion for those who do. I am glad to see someone who is actually doing some research before they dive into something that can take a year or more to grow out if they hate it. Here's my story and what I've done but I will not take responsability for any one who uses these suggestions. I am just like a physician I can not diagnose you over the phone or on the internet it takes all of the scenses working together to make an educated decission as what to do and what will work best and when the hair is ready to move to the next procedure.
Here's my story:
I determined at 12 I was going to go to cosmotology school because I had naturally curly and unruly hair that not even a professional knew what to do with. This was back in the 1960's when everyone had straight hair like now. by the 1970's I was finally able to go to school and guess what, nobody knew anything more then than when I was twelve. The concept of straightening has not changed just the types of chemicals used and yes there will be changes. Your hair will not feel as full as it does curly. You have to treat it with the right kind of conditioners regularly to keep it from drying out. You have to be careful with protien restoring conditioners as if they are over used they will make your hair as brittle and dry as if you haven't used them at all. You must have a professional with lots of experience and that has naturally curly hair treat your hair as they more fully understand what to expect during the process. Straight hair under a microscope is round. Naturally curly hair under a microscope is flat. The chemicals will penetrate and work on flat hair faster the flater the hair is. You must be exstemely careful not to over streach the hair as you process it an yet keep it smooth at the same time I have developed a way to control the over streching of the hair by cutting posterboard into 4 inch wide by the lenghth of your hair plus 2 inches. Have your stylist section into 4 sections Starting on the back of the head take 1/8" to 1/4" partings, apply the treatment to the hair, Gently comb the treated hair on to the board careful not to over streach the hair. When whole head is done watch it carefully. Do not leave treatment on for a set amount of time as the time needed depends on the desity of your hair. Chemicals do not know when to turn themselves off so you must go to a stylist who can tell by touch and movement if it is done. It is also important to use a stylist who knows what they are doing or you can get kinks in your hair that can not be removed. When the hair is rinsed it must be rinsed for a minimum of 10 minutes. Use a timer as you will feel like it is being rinsed forever but that is the number one secret to making this work. When you put the next solution on it forms or sets the hair. so you must saturate it well and comb it smooth, you can gently shape the ends to turn under a little. Do not leave on more than 5 minutes or it will make your hair brittle and frizzy. But it is the most important part of the straightening so make sure they do not skip this part and yes use a timer. Now that your hair is straight you will have the same problems that people with straight hair complain of. Not enough body, feels thinner, seems to get greasy faster, doesn't hold a curl, and seems flat. Unless you have ethnic hair do not use a straightener for ethnic hair as it has tons of ammonia in it and you can not color or do highlights in your hair. If you are going to color your hair after straightening it wait one week no matter what the product says. Your hair has been through a lot and must rest for 7 days to control drying and breakage. Trust me after 35 years of specializing in naturally curly hair, and baby fine hair. These treatments take a lot of consideration and research. Good luck to you

no body gives a **** if you're 12, 13, 14 or what ever. nobody needs to know about your unruly hair, we all here have it, we get it. so stop commenting about how your hair is soo bad blah blah. serious. shutup
it would be nice to actually let the people who have got it done comment.

Okay;
So i read a bunch of comments and
some say get it chemically straightened
and some say don't!

it flips out if its even humid or i'm around

HELP! My daughter is 8 and really wants to get her hair straightened. Unfortunately, her dad backs her 100% and sees absolutely nothing wrong with permanently straightening her hair. Is there a recommended age guideline here? I don't want to permanently damage her hair forever!

by Trista from PA on Jun 5, 2009

Will chemically straightening your hair really damage you hair in a very severe way if you don't take care of it just the right way? cuz i am very afraid that i am going to do something wrong and i am going to lose my natural hair forever!!!

by Trista from whitehall on Jun 5, 2009

by Leydii from nEw yOrkkk on Jun 3, 2009

Okay you is NOT suppose too wash your hair everyday! okay do NOT!. You are suppose to let your hair be its self meaning wash your hair every OTHER day. Because when i went to go get highlights in my hair they ask me do i wash my wash hair everyday i said'yes' and they tell me that-that isnt good for your hair let your hair be its self. So yehh good luCk byee! =]

Even though i spen a half hour or more putting products to keep my hair shiny and not frizzy .What do you know it rained the night b4 and i walk to school....:( HUMIDITY strikes again...i so badly want to chemically straighten my hair :(
