Chemical Hair Straightening

Chemical hair straightening makes fuzzy, curly, unmanageable hair soft and silky. It is originally developed in Japan for clients who wanted to smooth out their wavy, unruly hair.

I'm 16 years old, and I've been debating on getting my hair straightened chemically now for a few months... it's just I'm a little to scared to... I have very pretty, and really thick naturally curly hair... I've been straightening it with an iron for about a year and a half now, too. Getting up at 4 AM before school JUST to do my hair is getting OLD. I already do take good care of my hair (and myself), and after reading various haircare websites, doing what they say to maintain HEALTHY chemically-straightened hair will be a breeze for me. I have NEVER dyed my hair before, and of course, I've never permed or relaxed it (chemically). Any suggestions, anyone? I have a friend who's mom has been in the haircare works for about 13-14 years, and I think I could trust her and her skills with my hair. Please reply?

ok...i have really curly, frizzy, dull hair...people say my hair looks really good and people would pay thousands to get the kind of hair i have (the curlyness) i love my hair straight it looks soo good, but i want it to be straight for a long time...people also say my hair looks the best straight!! i dont know if i should get it chemically straightend of not! my hair looks good straight and when i do it properly (to get rid of the FRIZZINESS) it looks awesome but i work about 4 hours to get my hair looking good with just the curls not the friz! what should i do? get chemically straightened hair or leave it? if you high lighted your hair exactly 1 year ago, will chemically straightener still mess my hair up?

by Ashley from Tampa on Jun 11, 2008

Hey. Im 14 and i have curly/wavy hair with very blonde highlights. If i let it go natural its frizzy and kinda allover the place. So i always have to put a ton of product in it or straighten it with a flat iron. I want to get it chemically straightened but i dont want it to damage my hair a lot. Will it especially damage it because i have highlights? And will it make my hair fall out? Also after showering, will i have to do anything to get it silky and smooth?

I have had my hair straightened chemically and I would recommend it to anyone. I LOVE IT!!!!! Make sure you go to a professional hiar stylist . It should cost anywhere from $65-$100. And it last forever. Let me repeat myself. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

yea, im a guy and i cannot stand my hair wavy..so i straighten it every morining. my friend just git his done chemically, but i dont know whether or not to do it cuz i dont want to be bald. it would freak me out!!. i have really healthy hair. and i dont want to screw it up. i have nevr ever dyed my hair either so idk...im thinking a 50/50 chance it would work

by Simran from Toronto on May 23, 2008

I have it done twice. It was worth it at that time. But now my hair has been falling and breaking like crazy for the past 6 months. I will suggest anyone not to do it. Rather rely on a straightener to keep your hair safe from chemicals and baldness.

I just hate my hair!!!!!!!!!!It's sooo curly, frizzy and bushy. I want to get it chemically straigtened but i'm afraid if my hairs going to fall out or change colour. Will your hair still stay staight after you've washed it? how much is it?

by Kelsey Graven from Michigan on May 16, 2008

Hello, I am 15 years old and i absolutely cant stand my hair. It is really curly and frizzy. It takes me about one hour to straighten my hair and half the time it wont straighten or there will be a lot of moisture in the air and it will be really frizzy and gross. I really want to get it chemically straightened, but i don't want to damage my hair. I also want to have my hair chemically straightened for around 3 months or so. What do you think i should do?

by Dan from San Jose, CA on May 15, 2008

I'm a guy, and I'm asian and possibly I have French blood in me. (My dad's side. My sister looks Caucasian.)

I HATE MY HAIR. When I get out of the shower (after using TONS of conditioner), my hair is pretty soft, but it is VERY FRIZZY. Then, when it dries, it gets VERY DRY. Dry and frizzy hair. Can it get any worse?

Yup. I have wavy/curly hair. I know some other guys that have wavy hair, but their waves are long. My waves are very short and so my hair ends up looking hideous when I get out of the shower.

My bangs are curly. I hate curly bangs, so in the morning after I shower I straighten my hair (I'm not gay or anything.). Actually, I only straighten my bangs, because the hairs on top and the hairs on the sides are too short to actually straighten...

After straightening my bangs they come out all soft and not as frizzy. (That was weird. o_o You would have expected the opposite) But they stick out too much and don't look like it's naturally straight, so I wet it down a bit and then dry it.

I hate doing this every morning! I don't want to get stick straight hair, though, so relaxing my hair isn't what I want.

I'm going to stick to short hair, I guess.
